SC Johnson applauded the release of the draft "Chemicals in Commerce Act" by U.S. Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy.
"We have long supported updating this antiquated statute," said Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President – Global Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability for SC Johnson, who testified before the Senate Environment Committee in 2011 in support of modernizing TSCA. "The failure to reform our nation's primary chemical management law has contributed to a decline in consumer confidence in chemical safety. We are very encouraged that Chairman Shimkus has taken this vital step forward, and we hope that Congress will finally seize an opportunity to act this year, giving companies a modern regulatory process and consumers added confidence in the safety of the products used in their homes."
