As a result, Beauty Industry West (BIW) will award its 2015 Entrepreneur of the Year Award to Michael Dubin, founder & CEO of the Dollar Shave Club. Dublin will be honored during an award luncheon on June 16 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel – LAX. Entrepreneur of the Year Award honorees are selected based upon their brand’s unique positioning, innovative marketing and initial market success versus other brands in their category. Previous Entrepreneur of the Year Award recipients include other West Coast industry leaders, such as Jane Wurwand, Founder of Dermalogica, Scott Vincent Borba, founder of Borba Cosmetics and Ole Henriksen, founder of Ole Henriksen Skin Care.
Dollar Shave Club (DSC) achieved an 8% market share as well as establishing ground-breaking advancements in the razor and shaving accessories market with monthly shipments at a savings. DSC membership has topped 1.7 million since its launch in 2012. DSC is the first men’s brand to receive BIW’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award since its establishment 24 years ago.
The company has previously been recognized with several prestigious designations and awards including two Webbys, a Clio, and was selected to Ad Age’s 2014 Marketers A-List alongside major established brands such as Under Armour and Kohls, and previously won its “ Best Out of Nowhere ” Video Award in 2012. In 2013, DSC successfully launched two men’s grooming products including Dr. Carver’s Easy Shave Butter and One Wipe Charlies, followed by Dr. Carver’s MagnanimousPost-Shave All-In-One Daily Moisturizer in 2014. This year, DSC is launching a line of hair care products under the brand name Boogie’s, with a personalized questionnaire to aid customized selections on line.
