Bleu de Chanel, Acqua di Gio Pour Homme and Polo Red are just a few scents for men that will be gifted just in time for June 21, as the men’s prestige fragrance market is showing healthy growth leading up to Father’s Day. Dollar sales were up 6 percent in the first quarter of 2015 and 5 percent through April, a promising performance compared to the same period last year, when the market was down 4 percent and 3 percent, respectively, in 2014.
June drives second quarter sales for the men’s fragrance market, and in 2014 it amounted to more than April and May combined. Last year, gift sets drove Q2 growth for men’s fragrance, increasing by 53 percent compared to Q1, while juices grew by 8 percent.
Contrary to last year, juices are leading men’s prestige fragrance growth so far this year, a shift from 2014 when growth was fueled by gift sets.
“This year, the treats for men are in classics, prior year top launches, and entirely new scents. While gift sets will be important to watch, the new news creating buzz is in the vibrancy of the juice market,” said Karen Grant, global beauty industry analyst, The NPD Group. “From portable travel sizes to larger size options even bigger than five ounces, juice sales of men's scents are driving growth and promise to make this Father's Day a well scented holiday.”
