Bruce Springsteen may have been the first to sing about Pink Cadillacs, but Gwen Stefani was a huge Mary Kay fan for as long as she can remember. The No Doubt frontwoman recently recalled for Britain's Hello! magazine how she would hang out at her best friend's house and beg her to play with her Mary Kay makeup. Later, she worked at a mall in Anaheim with dreams of becoming a counter makeup artist. She ulimately achieved her goal, with no coaching from the department store or the brands that she sold.
"(I) worked in a mall that didn't even give you any lessons—they just put you there and said, 'OK, put the makeup on,'" she told Hello.
Stefani left the makeup counter by 1995 when No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom went platinum. Still, her love of makeup remains.
"I love a cat eye and red lipstick, or anything glamorous," she told Hello!. "When Tragic Kingdom came out, I had no makeup artist, no stylist. I did my makeup in disgusting bathrooms using just a compact. When I put those little gems on my eyes, I took them off every night and save them for the next show."
