After reviewing third quarter year-to-date performance and profits, Dr. Bronner’s says it will increase the support announced last month for minimum wage and marijuana reform campaigns in order to provide the additional firepower needed to win on the ballot in November.
Dr. Bronner’s is directly supporting the Colorado Families for Fair Wage Yes on 70 campaign with a donation of $300,000, and is contributing $250,000 to support Yes on Proposition 64, the California Marijuana Legalization Initiative. Dr. Bronner's is also donating an additional $150,000 to the Yes on 205 campaign in Arizona, bringing Dr. Bronner’s total contributions to that effort to $250,000. The company is also increasing firepower with another donation to New Approach of $100,000 to allocate to the Yes on Question 4 campaign in Massachusetts and the Yes on Question 1 campaign in Maine.
“My brother and I view our family company as a social engine that does business so we can do good,” said Michael Bronner, president of Dr. Bronner’s. “With current business out-pacing projections, we are excited to invest those profits into causes that we believe in.”
This news follows the company’s donation of $250,000 to The Fairness Project and $660,000 total to New Approach and the Marijuana Policy Project last month, as well as $100,000 to the Yes on 3 campaign in Massachusetts to end the cruel confinement of veal calves, egg-laying hens and pigs in that state.
The company has also announced a list of smaller but significant donations to groups spanning election and drug policy reform, animal advocacy, regenerative agriculture and efforts to curb climate change. Among these is support for Measure K&L in San Diego that would pass common-sense reforms to San Diego’s election process to ensure that big decisions on local candidates and local ballot measures are scheduled when the most people participate.
“Our support for efforts to raise the minimum wage, create sensible drug policy reform, reduce the suffering of farm animals, and transition to healthier and more sustainable food system, is all part of a moral imperative we feel that we have as a successful company,” added David Bronner, who is the company’s CEO (cosmic engagement officer).
