One-time Procter & Gamble CEO Robert A. McDonald will no longer serve as secretary of US Department of veterans affairs in the Trump Administration. McDonald held the position since July 2014. The move was announced event as major veterans groups lobbied the president-elect to keep McDonald as head of the VA.
Trump said he has asked Dr. David Shulkin, the undersecretary for health at the VA, to lead the federal agency. During the recent campaign, Trump repeatedly criticized the way the VA is run.
McDonald, a West Point graduate and military veteran, was expected to exit his post quickly, even before the January 20 swearing-in ceremony.
