The Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD) association supports the The Safe Cosmetics Modernization Act - which was recently reintroduced by US Congressman Peter Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Rules. The Safe Cosmetics Modernization Act was first brought forward by Congressman Sessions last term and identified as H.R. 4075.
The bill modernizes and improves the Food and Drug Administration's ability to assure the safety of cosmetic products by examining ingredient safety, establishing manufacturing processes, and tracking and quickly addressing adverse health impacts from potentially unsafe products and requiring that manufacturers be registered with the FDA. The bill will further allow the FDA to align its powers with that of our country's trading partners in the international market. The bill also meets consumer demand for distributing the best information on the safety of cosmetic products.
"We are proud to support the reintroduction of this legislation which increases consumer protections on cosmetics while allowing continued growth of small and entrepreneurial cosmetic enterprises in the US,” said Pam Busiek, president and CEO of ICMAD. "The bill will empower these small businesses, who have been the source of product innovation and creativity in our industry, to compete on the national and international stage through national uniformity of regulation."
In other news, ICMAD is also celebrating indie talent at its upcoming awards ceremony, as reported in Happi.
