As summer arrives, so does air that contains more moisture.Hair actually takes on whatever environment it is placed in.If the air is too dry, then the hair releases moisture and hair get static.Conversely, if the air is too moist, then the hair takes on more moisture making the hair limp or frizzy or both! The good news is that in the spring hair and scalp are more naturally hydrated, no more winter dry tight scalp or static electricity. The bad news is this more hydrating air changes the physical properties of hair causing it frizz while going limp or expanding into too-puffy hair. This can wreak havoc with your style throughout a spring day.All you need are a few handy styling tricks and the right products to combat summer frizz.

The best thing anyone can do as we transition into summer is to smooth the hair fabric into a smoother, sleeker texture with a repairative smoothing treatment.Look for one that is a no formaldehyde, no aldehyde, no formaldehyde derivatives, no harsh chemicals, no irritating fumes or odors, non toxic, no harmful fumes, no unpleasant odors, sulfate free, paraben free, allergen-free fragrance and gentle to the skin formula.Look for one that contains 85% certified organic ingredients such as powerful antioxidants organic horsetail, organic reishi mushroom, organic sprouted soy help to improve keratinization helping maintain strong hair fibers and help protect against damage and color fadage and organic aloe helps smooth and soothe scalp and hair while binding protective weightless moisture.Look for one that is both a smoother and rejuvenating treatment product in one which unlike perms, caustic relaxers and the Brazilian treatments, doesn’t alter the hair’s chemistry and actually leaves it stronger rather than weakening its internal structure—such as Tela Beauty Organics Phyto-Keratin Smoothing Treatment Blow Out.

Another trick if you have extra frizzy, thick coarse hair fabric is, if possible, shampoo every other day instead of everyday.Letting some of our natural oils move down the hair strands will help eliminate frizz. This trick is best reserved for the thicker, coarse types of hair fabric as this will only make finer fabrics go limp.Keep in mind no matter what your texture, the scalp and hair start to build bacteria after approximately 24 hours after you shampoo. This bacteria can cause the scalp to itch and can cause an unpleasant odor also.So if you are able to skip a day of shampooing, go for it to help eliminate some frizz! But keep a bottle of a dry shampoo handy.Steer clear of the dry powdery types, they only leave a dusty build-up, cloud hair’s surface and don’t do anything to eliminate odor or frizz.Instead choose a weightless spray in dry shampoo with multi-task benefits.Look for one that contains organic bergamot, which is expressed from the rinds of the orange as it is considered a natural antiseptic and is also a weightless frizz controller. Try Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Dri Shampoo.

And if hair looks frizzy after styling or during the day, divide dry hair into big sections and apply this frizz eliminating product to each section and twisting and wrapping sections down towards to scalp and hold for a second or two then release it.This will help to smooth a frizzy cuticle layer and create shine.Look for ingredients organic lavender and sunflower, as these both help to eliminate frizz while weightlessly hydrating hair and scalp.Organic antioxidants Chinese foxglove, reishi mushroom and ku shen are also important to help protect hair color and reinforcing hairs strength. Check out Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Dri Shampoo for this, too.

With the right type of frizz fighting shampoo and conditioner, anyone can shampoo daily but use a shampoo that doesn’t strip hair natural oils and instead gently cleanses while simultaneously depositing smoothing anti-frizz ingredients.Look for ingredients organic plantain, mountain ladybell and marshmallow root. This organic trio all work to smooth hair’s surface eliminating frizz without making hair flat. This helps to prepare the hair so hair is less frizzy during and after hair is styled and throughout the day in spring weather. Also this type of gentle cleansing shampoo containing organic sugar cane and sugar maple allows you to shampoo everyday because hair is never left stripped of natural oils. Try Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Curly Shampoo and Curly Conditioner.

Another quick trick to help keep frizz away is to start sleeping on a satin pillow case.As your hair moves across the pillow the satin fabric will actually smooth the hair fiber.Hair can actually get caught on cotton fibers and this ruffles the cuticle creating frizz. But to really help keep frizzy hair more consistently smooth and skinny, apply a leave in de-frizzing, bulk reducing, combination treatment-styling product.Look for a feather-light formula that contains a blend of wheat and vegetable micro emulsions that weightlessly penetrate making hair thermal styling is faster and easier, cutting down on drying time.Organic fig, plum and red algae provide exceptional thermal styling protection resulting in smoother and visibly healthier looking hair that resists reverting or frizzing in humidity.Look for organic horsetail and wolfberry help strengthen and protect and powerful antioxidants Chinese giant knotweed and reishi mushroom help protect hair color from fading while strengthen hair from the inside. Try Tela by Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Reduce Sensational Styling Smoother.

And last, remember that when styling frizzy hair, less is more.Make sure you are using the right types of frizz controlling products but also comb the hair into place when wet and allow to air dry, sit under a hooded dryer or use a diffuser to dry the hair.Do not scrunch or tousle as this will open up the bottom of the cut and create frizz and the hair will loose definition.Try to touch the hair as little as possible until after the hair is dry, then twist and separate the hair. And once hair is completely dry, another trick to de-puff frizzy hair is then put on a hat or wrap hair with a silk scarf for a half an hour. This will act as a way to “set” the hair smooth and close to the head. But head head frizzies off before they get started also apply a weightless groom that contains the anti-frizz ingredient, guar, to wet hair before styling. This will help to detangle and weightlessly smooth any hair texture keep frizz from forming during the day. Also look for a groom that contains and SPF to protect the hair and the scalp as we move into sunnier weather, such as Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Guardian SPF 18.
