Cognis Rolls Out New Ingredients
Cognis Care Chemicals and its active ingredients business, Laboratoires Sérobiologiques (LS), have rolled out new ingredients. Emulgade Sucro, a new emulsifier based on sucrose polystearate, can be used to give emulsions a velvety and powdery feel during application, and a light, non-sticky after-feel.
Plantapon LC 7 is a surfactant combining the benefits of moisturizing fruit acids with mildness. It is added to hair cleansing formulations, such as shampoos, but its 100% active state also makes it suitable for use in non-aqueous formulations.
LS’s ProDEJine LS 9784, a new active ingredient of biotechnological origin, is isolated and purified from yeast to protect and regenerate the dermo-epidermal junction. It has an anti-wrinkle effect around the eyes, and is useful in anti-aging face care products and care products for mature skin. Tricholastyl LS 9267 is an active ingredient designed to prevent the aging of the scalp by slowing hair loss and helping the hair keep its youthfulness. It is suitable for use in both intensive hair loss prevention treatments and in complementary care products such as shampoos and hair tonics. More info: Website: www.cognis.com.
Cognis Introduces Ideas for Home and Personal Care
Cognis has introduced two new ingredients for home and personal care products. The Plantapon LC 7 is a moisturizing fruit acid surfactant that is gentle on the skin, exhibits a degree of mildness that surpasses that of traditional surfactants. The product is suitable for use in gentle personal care formulations such as shower gels, baby-cleansing products and facial washes. When added to shampoos, this citric acid derivative contributes to the conditioning effect and improves hair. Its 100% active state also makes it suitable for use in non-aqueous formulations such as shower and bath oils.
Cognis has also introduced color care products that offer long-term protection against unwanted color loss or dye transfer. The growing demand for this type of product shows that detergents nowadays are expected not only to clean, but also to care for fabrics. Cognis’ new Polyquart FDI color care additive makes it possible to develop high-performance color detergents that also protect colors and prevent undesired dye transfer. Even in low concentrations, the product is more effective than many existing color care additives, thereby enabling manufacturers to cut their costs. Hydrophobically Modified Microfine Titanium Dioxide
Goldschmidt Personal Care now offers a hydrophobically modified microfine titanium dioxide. Tego Sun T 805 (INCI: titanium dioxide; trimethoxycaprylylsilane) gives a high level of UVB absorption combined with excellent water resistance. According to Goldschmidt, this product complements the present range of Tego Sun titanium dioxide and zinc oxide dispersions for the sun care industry as well as the company’s broad range of emulsifiers, emollients and performance boosting additives that are already widely used in sun care formulations. Tego Sun T 805 is readily dispersed into the common cosmetic oils via high shear dispersion techniques. The hydrophobic coating has a strong adhesion to the pigment, will not volatilize, and cannot be washed away. It covers the TiO2 particles and makes them compatible with zinc oxides. When Tego Sun T 805 is used in combination with organic UV absorbents, synergistic SPF results can be achieved. As it is aluminum-free, it will not contribute to the recrystalization of the organic UVA filter butylmethoxydibenzoylmethane used in some regions. Nanophase Launches Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles
Nanophase Technologies introduced a line of high purity zinc oxide nanoparticles primarily targeted for electronics, catalysts, healthcare products, personal and suncare products and industrial UV protection where a high degree of transparency is required. The zinc oxide nanoparticles are about 35 nanometers and feature non-agglomeration and narrow particle size distribution.
“We have developed this new nanomaterial based on market-pull for personal/sun care products and industrial coatings and plastics applications, especially those requiring high transparency and UV attenuation,” said Joseph Cross, president and CEO.
The new nanomaterial product, NanoTek Zinc Oxide HS30, is commercially available as nanoparticles, surface-treated nanoparticles, and stable nanoparticle dispersions in a variety of solvents.
