BASF has an opening for Cosmetic Chemist to join our Personal Care team in Tarrytown, NY reporting directly to the Group Leader, Global Development and Technical Service Effect Pigments. The ideal candidate should be self motivated, driven and innovative, with an interest in cosmetic formulation, testing analysis, research and documentation.
Major Responsibilities:
• Formulation of all types of cosmetic products with emphasis in color cosmetics. • Develop an understanding of Effect Pigments. • Monitor stability and compatibility progress of formulations and/or new ingredients.
• Perform laboratory experiments relating to color cosmetic products.
Given well-defined projects, plans and implements the design, and interprets the results.
• Demonstrate fundamental understanding of general chemistry concerning cosmetic raw ingredients.
• Use of analytical and experimental data to analyze cause/effect relationships between various components of cosmetic and personal care materials.
• Analyze formulations and mechanics of interaction between effect pigments and various other constituents of cosmetic and personal care products.
• Provide sales and marketing support through appropriate application samples.
• Provide technical support for our customer base.
• Translating customer feedback into new and/or improved product formulations.
• Find opportunities for cross-functional activities.
• Knowledge of claim substantiation support.
REQUIREMENTS: BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
Position requirements:
• B.S. in Chemistry, Biology or related science
• Minimum of 3 years experience in developing new products or applications in an industrial setting
• cosmetic industry, with a focus on color/decorative cosmetics
• Good problem solving, decision-making, inter-personal skills and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform in a team environment and positively interact across functional units within an organization.
