The New York Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists’ Suppliers Day is always filled with opportunities to learn more about the ingredients that go into today’s skin and hair care formulas. But what about the processes that turn these materials into effective formulas?
To help chemists understand what goes into making a great cream or shampoo (aside from great ingredients), co-chairs Daphne Benderly and Joseph Albanese developed a one-day symposium entitled “Product & Process Development Related Considerations.”
The event attracted more than 120 attendees who heard from 12 presenters on a variety of topics including lamellar gel networks, formulation stability, scale up and processing, fragrance encapsulation and preservation. In fact, the platform proved to be so successful that Benderly and Albanese decided to divide the event into two concurrent tracks.
“All of the speakers accepted our invitation to present,” recalled Albanese. “That’s really unusual.”
The event opened with concurrent sessions by Ashland’s Joseph Dallal, “Shampooing and Conditioning: Not Just for Cleaning, but for Delivering…Where Do You Start?” and Englewood Lab’s Marc Cornell, “Cosmetic Active Delivery.”
Attendees were able to move between meeting rooms at their leisure to hear the presentations that were of most interest to them.
