Vertellus is introducing Freshstat Plus, a CPC-based (INCI: Cetylpyridinium Chloride) preservative, at In-Cosmetics at stand Q61. The newest product development in the Freshstat family, Freshstat Plus has been especially designed as a preservative for anionic surfactant systems such as SLS and SLES. The product contains proprietary technologies that naturally boost performance of Freshstat in surfactant-based systems, including shampoos and liquid body washes. These technologies allow Vertellus’ Freshstat Plus preservative system to address challenges commonly posed by select mold species in surfactant-based product formulations.
Introduced by Vertellus in 2015, Freshstat is an odorless, colorless liquid offering formulators a high degree of versatility due to its effectiveness across a broad pH range. Safety testing has shown that CPC is negative for skin sensitization potential and irritation at formulation levels up to 0.5 percent and CPC is widely used in a variety of leave-on and rinse-off personal care products.
While the Freshstat product line is a newcomer to the market, the product line is based on CPC – a trusted ingredient used in oral health care products in the US, Europe and Japan for more than 40 years and approved by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare as a cosmetic ingredient. Additionally, the European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) finalized a favorable safety opinion for CPC as a cosmetic and oral care preservative at prescribed levels.
