Since her debut in 1959, Barbie has been the most beloved doll of generations of young girls. Always in step with the times, Mattel’s recent collaboration with M•A•C (Make-up Art Cosmetics) is proving to be another evolutionary stride for the iconic doll. Expected to debut this spring, the Barbie Loves M•A•C color palette is designed to excite the little girl in every adult Barbie lover.

“Barbie is the number one fashion doll in the world and has been for four decades. Barbie’s heritage is in fashion – and we are thrilled to extend this into beauty,” commented Richard Dickson, senior vice president, marketing, media and entertainment, worldwide, Mattel Brands. “Our partnership with MAC marks the first time ever that Barbie has partnered with an adult prestige cosmetics company and it is a huge honor to collaborate with such a creatively-driven, like-minded, best-in-class partner.”
Although the collection’s pink, peach and plum hues bear kid-friendly names like Sweet & Single, Malibu Barbie and Springtime Skipper, M•A•C carefully crafted the line to appeal strictly to grown ups. “If you ask most designers, professional makeup artists and hair stylists who their first client was, most of them will say it was Barbie,” said James Gager, senior vice president/creative director of M•A•C Cosmetics. “There is an organic connection between Barbie and M•A•C. Barbie is an admired global fashion icon who has been dressed by nearly every couture designer in the world but she never had her own professional makeup collection. The Barbie Loves MAC makeup collection is designed for everyone who grew up with Barbie and the Barbie fantasy of having your own airplane, train case or town house. Finally, women and men, if they choose, have the opportunity to wear a sophisticated adult Barbie makeup collection and live out their fantasies.”
The Barbie Loves M•A•C collection is comprised of a variety of shades of Lipsticks, Lipglass, Cremestick Pearl Liners, Eyeshadows, Liquidfast Liners, Loudlash, Powder blushes, Glimmershimmers, Beauty Powders and Nail Lacquers. Retail prices will range from $10 for a nail lacquer to $20 for a shimmery Beauty Powder. The line’s packaging is emblazoned with the instantly recognizable Barbie signature as well as a retro-looking pink Barbie silhouette.
There is also a limited edition M•A•C Barbie doll to commemorate the collaboration. She carries a M•A•C Makeup Case and bears a dolled-up look inspired by the Barbie Loves M•A•C Spring 2007 color collection. She will retail for $35.
