Times are tough, and beauty shoppers are paring down. After all, at around $15 a pop for most prestige brands, beauty aficionados that normally have a few tubes and/or glosses in their makeup bags are whittling their choices down to one standout shade for the season.

But not at Avon. The brand that says “Hello Tomorrow” is tapping the wave of the future with its new SpectraColor Lipstick that promises customized lip color just a few clicks away. According to the company, the product features seven shades of lip color packed into one sleek, innovative package. It features “SpectraDial Technology”—a light and dark version of a shade (choose from berries, browns, peaches, pinks, caramels, raisins, lilacs, roses, nudes or wines) in side-by-side chambers with a full spectrum of hues in between.

According to Avon, the seven-shade range allows the consumer to create just the right look for any mood—just twist the dial and slide on the shine. Formulated with vitamins A, C and E, this lightweight, high-shine formula delivers beautiful color that lasts for hours, it adds.

“Now you can create a customized lip throughout the day and into the evening,” says Jillian Dempsey, Avon global creative color director. “By clicking the dial, go from the palest hue to the deepest, most saturated color. It really is like having seven shades of lipstick in one tube that you can mix and match."

At the forefront of the campaign is Avon Global Ambassador Reese Witherspoon, who willappear in print and TV advertising for SpectraColor Lipstick starting this month. Other new rollouts from the brand for Summer 2009 include Ultra Color Rich Extra Plump Lipstick for fuller lips and Ideal Shade pressed powder with light-adjusting pigments.
