Opening Ceremony

Estée Lauder sponsored the beauty look (makeup and nails) for Opening Ceremony’s debut runway show at New York Fashion Week at Pier 57. Estée Lauder creative makeup director Tom Pecheux led a team of 17 makeup artists to create the look on more than 50 models while Naomi Yasuda and her team created an edgy look for the female models’ nails. “The beauty look I created plays off the Spring 2014 Opening Ceremony Collection—traditional Korean shapes, prints and colors revisited with a very young, fresh and casual feel. We focused on the eyes using a soft ‘off white’ to frame them in a traditional yet gentle and feminine way. The bold brow creates a ‘natural’ brow effect, as if they have never been touched and helps to anchor the look, explained Pecheux.

OPI X BCBG

OPI kicked off New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with BCBGMAXAZRIA at Lincoln Center. Models walked the runway wearing Samoan Sand, a soft neutral shade ideal for Spring 2014. This hue also made an appearance on the runway last year, so Samoan Sand is turning into a NYFW staple.

Redken at Victoria Beckham

Redken creative consultant Guido “muted” the hair this season at Victoria Beckham’s show, in order to create a more homogenous runway look, he said. The simplicity of the hair, which was pulled back into a low ponytail and finished with a basic black headband, emphasized cohesion over individuality. By minimizing the unique personalities of each model, Guido enabled Beckham to communicate her design aesthetic in a clear and concise manner. He explained, "Overall, it's a very minimal aesthetic, a very clean and modern look for Victoria Beckham. She wanted the hair to emphasize uniformity on the runway, which is why I pulled the hair away from the face and secured it with a basic black headband. In a way, this look is modernly classic."

Tibi Spring/Summer 2014

At the Tibi SS’14 show, the nail look was created by Jin Soon Choi of JINsoon. Choi created a nail design that expressed a visual language developed by American travelers who lived a nomadic life in the 1920s. An off-white/blue-gray nail polish was previewed from the JINsoon Spring 2014 Collection.

Wella Styles Peter Som

Peter Som described his Spring 2014 collection as surf style meets downtown. According to Wella Professionals global creative director of Care & Styling Eugene Souleiman, the look is a juxtaposition of sophistication and masculinity. Products used as the show included Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo as well as Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz.

Raw Beauty at Alexander Wang

NARS created the look for the Alexander Wang SS’14 runway show. “This is raw beauty—a simple freshness, focusing on skin care, curled lashes and a groomed brow,” said Diane Kendal, the lead artist. Products used included NARSskin Aqua Gel Oil-Free Moisturizer, a stick concealer and then new brow gel.

Dive In at Prism

At the Prism Spring/Summer 2014 show, the overall look was glossy, sleek and androgynous. O&M (Original Mineral) creative director Janelle Chaplin styled the looks. Products used included O&M Rootalicious Root Lift Spray, O&M Style Guru Styling Cream and O&M Frizzy Logic Shine Serum.

Independent Looks by Rusk

Professional hair care brand Rusk will be returning to Nolcha Fashion Week in New York City for the third season as the show’s official presenting sponsor. Now in its seventh year of showcasing independent designers, Nolcha Fashion Week will take place at Chelsea Piers until Sept. 12. An award-winning event recognized byMercedes-Benz and the New York City Economic Development Corporation, Nolcha Fashion Week involves over 180 fashion designers worldwide. TreSemme Styles Rebecca Minkoff

The hair look for Rebecca Minkoff’s Spring/Summer 2014 runway show was inspired by an old photo of Bianca Jagger and Frida Kahlo. TreSemmé stylist Jeanie Syfu interpreted iconic braided up-dos into a wearable, textured style that was intentionally imperfect for a modern finish. She prepped damp hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse and sealed the look with the TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray.

Don’t Forget the Guys

Bespoken’s NYFW show also featured looks from Hair Room Service & Evolution Man. The men’s makeup was by Matthew Green for Hair Room Service using Evolution Man products. FYI, all models had Evolution Man Lip Balm applied for added moisture.
