The New York Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists' dinner cruise around Manhattan attracted 150 attendees and featured an entertaining and insightful presentation on the state of the preservative industry by industry expert David Steinberg, president, Steinberg & Associates. Steinberg noted that NGOs such as the Environmental Working Group are working to unravel the industry. But the worst offenders could be cosmetic marketing departments that fan the flames by demanding products with "preservative-free" claims, according to Steinberg.
