Hydrophobically Modified Microfine Titanium Dioxide

October 31, 2005

Goldschmidt Personal Care now offers a hydrophobically modified microfine titanium dioxide. Tego Sun T 805 (INCI: titanium dioxide; trimethoxycaprylylsilane) gives a high level of UVB absorption combined with excellent water resistance. According to Goldschmidt, this product complements the present range of Tego Sun titanium dioxide and zinc oxide dispersions for the sun care industry as well as the company’s broad range of emulsifiers, emollients and performance boosting additives that are already widely used in sun care formulations. Tego Sun T 805 is readily dispersed into the common cosmetic oils via high shear dispersion techniques. The hydrophobic coating has a strong adhesion to the pigment, will not volatilize, and cannot be washed away. It covers the TiO2 particles and makes them compatible with zinc oxides. When Tego Sun T 805 is used in combination with organic UV absorbents, synergistic SPF results can be achieved. As it is aluminum-free, it will not contribute to the recrystalization of the organic UVA filter butylmethoxydibenzoylmethane used in some regions.
