Croda Inc., Parsippany, NJ, introduced new ingredients for hair and skin care.
Crodamol STS is a new emollient ester said to be “superior to silicone.” The ester delivers good shine and feel characteristics, is non-volatile, safer to use and has no drying effect on the skin. It is easily emulsified and can stabilize high silicone load emulsions. It has a wider compatibility with other ingredients and better dispersibility in water, company executives said. Unlike silicone, Crodamol STS shows little spontaneous spreading on skin, forms films that aid in sunscreen deposition and helps reduce dry-off of essential oils. It is able to wet pigments, giving it more multifunctionality in makeup and sunscreen products.
Another quat from Croda is Incroquat QLC, a quaternized lipid conditioner developed for skin care. Incroquat QLC provides enhanced substantivity and conditioning, skin smoothing and moisturizing benefits, which were documented by in vivo profilometry and corneometry and substantiated by a sensory panel, company executives said.
The quats are exceptionally mild, less apt to penetrate the stratum corneum and are gentle enough for leave-on skin care applications.
