“Polyglycerols in Personal Care,” a new informative publication from Solvay Chemicals, Houston, TX, details the performance and formulation benefits of Solvay’s polyglycerols in personal care products.

Among the topics covered in the publication are Solvay diglycerol’s functions in personal care products, and the action of esters made from Solvay polyglycerol-3.

Solvay executives said diglycerol is a humectant that moisturizes skin and hair. It is said to increase flavor and fragrance impact and longevity in various formulations, such as oral care and deodorant products. The ingredient has a high refractive index, imparting better optical clarity for formulations such as gels. It is also viscous, making it a good thickening agent, and can impart improved skin feel, reduced tackiness and reduced stickiness.

Esters made from the company’s diglycerol and polyglycerol-3 are appropriate for use as emulsifiers, emollients, moisturizers, pearlescent agents, thickeners, solubilizers, dispersants, conditioners and skin-fat replenishing agents.
