DSM Introduces Ingredient For Oral Care Products

November 22, 2005

With its patented technology, DSM Nutritional Products, Inc., Parsippany, NJ, extracted the major active component from green tea—epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)—and created the natural compound Teavigo. Teavigo contains a minimum of 94% EGCG, which plays an important role in the preservation of healthy teeth and gums and may assist in inhibiting the development of dental cavities and gingivitis, according to company executives. The compound is a highly refined, off-white powder that is completely soluble in commonly used cosmetic solvents and is free of pesticides, executives said.
