Anti-Aging Peptide Available from LS
Members of the aging demographic are seeking products to restore the radiance and resistance of mature skin. To prevent sallowness, manufacturers of personal care products are offering solutions designed to meet these specific needs. Laboratoires Sérobiologiques, the active ingredients business of global specialty chemicals supplier Cognis, recently launched Syniorage LS 9748, an active peptide to reverse the effects of aging. It acts on the two constituents of the epidermis that are primarily responsible for its cohesion, thereby helping to enhance the appearance of the skin and restore its radiance, resistance and firmness.
Syniorage LS 9748 is a ready-to-use hydro-glycerinated tetrapeptide solution that helps to rejuvenate the epidermis and restore its cohesion and resistance. By stimulating the synthesis of syndecan-1 and collagen XVII, the ingredient enhances skin elasticity and firmness, thus improving its resistance and radiance. Syniorage can be incorporated in anti-aging face creams and various other products for mature skin.

New Hair Care Ingredient by Momentive Performance
Momentive Performance Materials Inc. introduced Silsoft Care “quat” blend, a new proprietary product with potential use in hair care products that deliver conditioning performance benefits while adding volume. This new blend is an option for leave-on formulations designed to deliver soft feel and manageability without weighing down hair.
Silsoft Care blend is also a candidate to consider as an ingredient of choice for these typical performance benefits in rinse-off conditioners.
Silsoft Care blend contains a proprietary silicone that provides a new choice to consider for delivering conditioning properties to hair. A cyclic silicone acts as a volatile carrier, first spreading the silicone uniformly across the surface of hair, and then drying to leave a protective film. The new blend can help deliver volume. The film also provides wet and dry combing properties as well as sensory performance. Silsoft Care blend is being introduced globally.
“Hair care products that leave hair looking healthy, full of body and free of static are especially welcomed by consumers with fine hair,” said Beatriz Blanco, global marketing manager, Momentive Performance Materials. “The introduction of Silsoft Care blend helps us deliver on our performance promise to our customers and can help them deliver on their promise to consumers.”
Silsoft Care blend is a potential choice for many hair care applications including rinse-off and leave-in conditioners, hair serums, styling gels, pomades and pre-treatments for coloring, bleaching and permanents. When applied through a hair serum, Silsoft Care may help to significantly reduce damage caused by mechanical or chemical treatments to hair. More info: www.momentive.com
Celanese Introduces Dispersible Nonwoven Wipes
Responding to the need for flushable nonwoven products that completely disperse when disposed, Celanese Corporation recently introduced a new polymer system. The patent-pending polymer system, Nacrylic STP, adds value to chemically bonded wipes by supporting the wet strength requirements of products containing lotions and by triggering the wipe to fully disperse while in the presence of excess water. This all-new technology allows consumer product companies to market wipes as truly flushable products that disperse in virtually the same way as common toilet paper.
At the international engineered fabrics conference and expo, Celanese also presented its latest generation of emulsion technologies designed to support significant improvements in the performance, form and functionality of nonwovens and paper specialty products. Emulsions based on vinyl acetate/ethylene (VAE) and other chemistries allow product differentiation for engineered fabrics manufacturers while satisfying consumer and industrial requirements in areas such as softness, strength and reduced environmental impact.
According to Claudia Berrón, marketing manager for engineered fabrics at Celanese, one of the company’s greatest strengths in supporting industry innovation is its ability to leverage a diverse set of polymer emulsion and polyvinyl alcohol chemistry to deliver market winning solutions.
“We bring a remarkably broad range of technologies, including vinyl acetate/ethylene (VAE) emulsions, vinyl acrylic emulsions, vinyl acetate emulsions, acrylic polymers, functional polymers and polyvinyl alcohols, to developing functionality for engineered fabrics,” she said. “Our emulsions act as the primary fiber binder in nonwovens and paper specialties and also create high-value functional properties such as abrasive or exfoliating texture in wipes, burst resistance in filters, and water repellency in wallpaper.”
