TRI-K Rolls Out 30 Scented Extracts
TRI-K Industries announced the introduction of TRI-K Scented Extracts, a full line of all natural, aromatic ingredients for cosmetic and personal care products. TRI-K Scented Extracts are touted as high-quality, natural extracts that meet formulators’ needs for natural fragrancing and odor masking.
In a Freedonia report, “Flavors & Fragrances to 2009,” it is predicted that flavor and fragrance demand in the U.S. will reach $4.6 billion by 2009, with gains being supported by the need to mask unappealing odors in active ingredients. This coupled with today’s increasing consumer demand for more natural products makes TRI-K Scented Extracts a perfect alternative to traditional synthetic fragrances, according to the company.
“These all natural extracts provide excellent natural aromas and varying functionality,” said John Carratura, senior technical information specialist at TRI-K. “They are an ideal alternative to formulated fragrances for many cosmetic products.” A total of 30 extracts are offered in the line.

Gatuline In-Tense Fights the Signs of Aging
Gattefossé recently introduced its new active ingredient, Gatuline In-Tense. The material is said to reinforce the architecture of the dermis and fight the signs of aging. By stimulating the biomechanical functions of the fibroblasts, Gatuline In-Tense enhances density of the skin, leading to a reduction in roughness.
Gatuline In-Tense is a concentrated oily extract taken from the upper part of the spilanthes acmella plant (asteraceae family). It is the richness in alkylamides which gives all its strength to the active ingredient. These amides have proved to be excellent markers of reproducibility and activity.
Gattefossé collects the flower buds of mafane used for Gatuline In-Tense in South Africa. Concerned by the environment, Gattefossé is in full agreement with current expectations of its customers in regards of the ethics and the environment protection. Only the flower buds of the mafane are collected. The integrity of the plant is thus preserved, in order to allow a continuous development in time.

Amaze XT Improves Water Resistance
At the Florida Sunscreen Symposium in Lake Buena Vista, National Starch Personal Care presented a technical solution that promises to expand the use of inorganic UV filters in water resistant sunscreen formulations.
Data made public during a technical poster presentation indicated that sunscreen formulations manufactured with a special rheology modifier and film-forming polymer had, in combination, served to significantly boost the water resistance properties of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.
The research findings pave the way for makers of sunscreen products to incorporate inorganic UV filters into water resistant beach wear, sports wear and daily wear formulas without technical challenges.
The Amaze XT polymer—in conjunction with a water-soluble film-forming polymer—delivers enhanced SPF and water resistance to systems formulated with inorganic UV filters.
Momentive Creates Superspreader for Home Care
Momentive Performance Materials Inc. introduced Silwet Hydrostable 68 superspreader, an advanced silicone surfactant that may help support a wide range of product performance enhancements for home care, institutional and industrial (HII) formulators.

In order to address the needs of today’s consumers who recognize the connection between nutrition and healthy skin and hair, Stepan Company offers a line of naturally-derived ingredients for use in food, supplements, cosmeceuticals and personal care.
Produced with ingredients derived from vegetable oils, Neobee Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) are nutritional lipids that are metabolized by the body in 1/8th the time of conventional fats. For those in personal care or cosmeceuticals, Stepan offers a wide range of naturally-derived, multi-functional surfactants. Featured at Supply Side West will be Stepan-Mild L3, a new secondary surfactant derived from lactic acid and lauryl alcohol. Formulations using L3 show better foaming, viscosity build, moisturization and improved skin feel than other secondary surfactants on the market today.
