The annual New Ideas 5K Run/Walk for Charity, sponsored by Uniqema and other supporters, will achieve its five-year milestone on April 13. Attendees of the In-Cosmetics show in Berlin will gather to run five kilometers or walk 2.5 kilometers in order to benefit the Look Good, Feel Better support service for women suffering from the physical side effects of chemotherapy.
The Look Good, Feel Better charity organization was created by the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association in 1994 and is supported by both national and international companies.
Joining Uniqema in sponsoring the Run/Walk event are Happi in the U.S.; Soap, Perfumery and Cosmetics (SPC) in the UK and COSSMA magazine in Germany. A record crowd is expected.
“The fifth anniversary of the New Ideas 5K offers all of us the opportunity to share concepts that can lead to great things in personal care,” commented Andrew Girdharry, sales development manager for health and personal care, Uniqema. “We hope In-Cosmetics trade show attendees will put on their running clothes on the morning of April 13 and show their support for an industry and a community that has its best days ahead.”
If last year is any indication, the Run/Walk should be a success. More than 130 people participated in the 2004 event in Milan’s Parco Sempione, making it the most successful event since its inception, show organizers said. Contributions raised in Milan brought the four-year charitable donation total to almost €15,000.
This year’s Run/Walk takes participants through the unique history and booming economy of Berlin, a city with nearly one quarter covered by forests and parks.
A website dedicated to the event has been set up in order to answer potential attendees’ questions. The site includes a signup section, a helpful training/stretching program, information on Look Good, Feel Better and the history of the Run/Walk. It can be accessed at http://www.uniqema. com/pc/runwalkberlin.htm.
A donation of €10 will be provided for each In-Cosmetics attendee participating in the Run/Walk event.
