Institutional Dishwasher Detergent

Kemphos 2001
25 - 35

Sodium carbonate
10 - 20

Sodium hydroxide
15 - 10

Sodium methasilicate
10 - 20

Sodium tripolyphosphate
15 - 40

Procedure:
Mixing is generally accomplished in a ribbon or tumbler. The mixing order of components should be such that the nonionic surfactant is absorbed into the alkaline chemicals. Kemphos 2001 should be added to the rest of the ingredients last.

Comments:
Kemphos 2001 can be used in machine dishwashing detergents for home and for industrial and institutional (I&I) purposes. The chlorine contributes to the overall cleaning power of the detergent by oxidizing proteinaceous soil. The phosphate contributes toward shiny dishes and reduces spotting on glassware. Phosphates also control water hardness and enhance detergency.

Procedure:
In the primary vessel dissolve 2 in 1 and then stop mixing and sprinkle on 3. When 3 has fully wetted, resume mixing. In a separate vessel combine 4, 5 and 6 and then add to main vessel and heat this water phase to 80°C. To the secondary vessel add 7,8,9 and 10 and start mixing and heating this oil phase to 85°C. Add 11, 12 and 13 when the oil phase is at 50°C. When the oil phase is at 85°C, add 14, 15, 16 and 17. When both phases are homogeneous and at their designated temperatures, add the oil phase to the water phase with continued mixing without aeration. Maintain heat, mixing for five minutes and then homogenize for one minute (until a fine white emulsion is formed). Stop homogenizing, resume mixing and start cooling. When the batch is below 45°C, add 18. Mix until the batch is creamy smooth and below 35°C and then replace any water lost to evaporation. When again uniform, stop cooling and mixing and perform final quality assurance checks.
