Glycols-Based Translucent Deo Stick

Phase Phase A

Dipropylene glycol LO+ (Dow) (Dipropylene glycol)
64.00

Water (distilled deionized)
17.45

Propylene glycol USP (Lyondell) (Propylene glycol)
9.20

Phase Phase B

Sodium stearate OP-200 V (HallStar) (Sodium stearate)
6.30

Phase Phase C

Trolamine 99 N.F. (Ineos Oxide) (Triethanolamine)
0.05

Spectrasolv DMDA (HallStar) (Dimethyl capramide)
2.00

Fragrance 59249 (Belle-Aire Fragrances) (Parfum)
1.00

Procedure::
Combine phase A in the main vessel, start mixing and heat to 75°C. Slowly add phase B (to prevent clumping). When the batch is crystal clear and completely free of undissolved phase B, add phase C in order. When again completely clear, correct for any water loss and commence very slow cooling (to prevent product solidification) with strong mixing without aeration. Stop cooling at least 5°C above solidification point and fill product into containers.

Comments::
Dimethyl capramide inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria, including C. xerosis and Micrococcus species, relevant to the control of underarm odor. It improves deodorant stick clarity and leaves skin smelling fresh and clean. Optimum clarity requires filling product into containers while well above its solidification temperature so the product does not start to set while being poured.

Appearance::
Almost colorless firm, deformation-resistant translucent gel Melt (solidification) Point—56°C.

Hand Sanitizing Gel

Phase Phase A

Deionized water
38.75

Carbopol Ultrez 20 Polymer (Lubrizol/Noveon)

Ethanol
60.00

SilSense Copolyol-1 Silicone (Lubrizol/Noveon) (PEG-33, PEG-8 dimethicone (and) PEG-14)
0.30

Triisopropanolamine (Dow Chemical)
0.25

Procedure::
Disperse Carbopol Ultrez Polymer by sprinkling on the surface of deionized water.  After polymer is wetted, mix slowly at low speed. Slowly add the propylene glycol and ethanol with gentle mixing. Allow as much air to escape as possible before proceeding. Add the SilSense Copolyol-1 Silicone with gentle mixing. Add the triisopropanolamine with gentle sweeping motion to minimize air entrapment. Mix until uniform. Add dye or fragrance if desired. The following water-soluble emollients are also recommended for use in this application. Use levels from 0.3-0.5% addition will have little effect on the final clarity.  Use of a non-water-soluble emollient will result in an opaque formulation: Glucam E-20  (Lubrizol Advanced Materials) (Methyl gluceth-20) or Glucam E-10 (Lubrizol Advanced Materials) (Methyl Gluceth-10). For more information, request TDS-255.
