The newest idea in titanium dioxide protection

In today’s arena of titanium dioxide (TiO2) development, functionality, effectiveness, aesthetics and ease of use cannot be overlooked when designing a new product. No stranger to the TiO2 market, Kemira Specialty, Cosmetic Segment, will proudly launch the latest addition to its UV-Titan line of TiO2 products at In-Cosmetics in Amsterdam.

New UV-Titan M265 is a surface-treated, highly-hydrophobic, ultra-fine TiO2 product designed to perform as a UV filter in sun care and skin care formulations. It is easily dispersible in non-polar oils and silicones. Furthermore, UV-Titan M265 is extremely photo- and chemically-stable; not breaking up molecules or forming free radicals in applications, according to Leena Kujansivu, product manager, Specialty Products.

Triethoxy caprylylsilane enables a chemically-bonded coating on TiO2 particles, which provides superior hydrophobic surface properties. According to Kemira Specialty, the stability of the coating is remarkable with no residual ethanol, and, compared to hydrogen reactive silicone, it has no residual hydrogen potential. UV-Titan M265 also possesses excellent dispersion properties. Its narrow particle size distribution and organic treatment imparts outstanding skin feel and transparency characteristics to finished products. UV-Titan M265 is easy to disperse into various oils, silicones and esters with a high solid content, and is non-influencing on dispersion viscosity as a function of solid loading, said Ms. Kujansivu. The particle size of UV-Titan M265 in dispersions is very fine, thus giving effective UV protection in final formulations.
