DuPont Tate & Lyle BioProducts offers Zemea
Zemea, a propanediol from renewable resources was the center of attention at the DuPont Tate & Lyle BioProducts' booth during In-Cosmetics. Zemea, derived from corn, is a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based glycols that are widely used in cosmetic formulations.
The material acts as an emollient, humectant and solvent, as well as a hand-feel modifier and viscosity enhancer. Zemea has applications in a wide array of cosmetics, including hair care, deodorants and skin care products. It can also be used in botanical extraction and dilution.
Zemea has low odor, high purity and does not cause skin irritation or sensitization, making it an attractive component of sustainable cosmetic formulations, according to DuPont Tate & Lyle.
