US Patent No. 8,875,719 B2; L’Oréal S.A., Paris, has patented a brush for applying makeup to eyelashes and/or eyebrows. The brush is comprised of a core, bristles comprising end portions extending substantially radially around at least a portion of the core, wherein the bristles define a bristled portion of the brush having a first length measured along a longitudinal axis of the core; and at least one notch having a second length measured along the longitudinal axis of the core less than half the first length, with at least one notch defined at a notched bristled portion of the brush. The bristles further define a non-notched bristled portion that is devoid of any notch all around the core along the non-notched bristled portion of the brush.
The brush has a non-circular cross-section in a plane perpendicular to the core and intersecting the notch, and at least one notch is configured to form at least one bunch of eyelashes and/or eyebrows that are not separated from one another when the brush is used to apply makeup thereto.
