Can the catalyst of the minerals makeup movement shake up the perfume business?
Inspired by her own life, Leslie Blodgett Perfume Diaries is a new limited edition fragrance collection created exclusively for Sephora by Leslie Blodgett, chief executive officer of Bare Escentuals—you know, the brand that helped fuel the mineral makeup market.
An avid journaler, Blodgett’s first scent in the series is Bare Skin, which is reminiscent of an experience she had during a trip to Mexico. According to Blodgett, Bare Skin is “the way you feel when the sun is beating down on you during the day, but then you go out at night and you’re still sizzling from the warmth of the day which mingles with the night air and the music.”
Working with perfumer Stephen Nilsen, the Bare Skin eau de parfum ($55 for 1.7oz) has top notes of black pepper, freesia and anise with heart notes of iris, vanilla orchid, plumeria and patchouli. Dry down notes include sandalwood, labdanum and musk.
And while the scent—just like an actual diary entry—speaks to a pivotal moment in Blodgett’s own life, Sephora officials believe Perfume Diaries will resonate with many women (just like Blodgett’s makeup).
“We believe this line can influence the fragrance market by looking at scents from a different perspective, a more personal perspective,” said Allison Slater, vice president of retail marketing for Sephora. “We believe that any woman who wants to revisit a pleasurable experience or happy memory garnered from a journey will gravitate to these scents.”
In addition to the eau de parfum, Bare Skin comes in a solid perfume compact ($35) and a perfumed body cream ($30). All three products were unveiled to Sephora Beauty Insiders in October prior to their national roll out this month in all Sephora outlets.
The next entry in Leslie Blodgett Perfume Diaries is planned for Spring 2010.
