Alchem Ups USP Benzethonium Chloride Production

March 14, 2013

• Alchem International has brought on new production capabilities for USP grade benzethonium chloride, an antimicrobial that has both germicidal and germistatic properties. According to Alchem, it now has the capacity to produce approximately 150 MT of material annually at its plant, which is a WHO-GMP and US FDA-approved site following GMP, the company said. “Alchem’s benzethonium chloride meets all of the FDA-TFM criteria for hand sanitizers and offers many other functional advantages versus other alternatives,” said Laurent Leduc, general manager of Alchem USA.

With some recent tightness in supply in the market and increasing prices for this material, the new production capacity should help to address market needs in the US, according to the company. Ampak Company is the distribution partner in the US for Alchem Industries.
