Humane Society Campaign Ties Into Animal Testing Ban

April 4, 2013

The European Union’s ban on animal testing for cosmetics is now in effect, as previously reported in Happi. In correlation, The Humane Society rolled out Be Cruelty-Free Week on March 11 in celebration of this ban on the marketing and sale of cosmetics newly tested on animals.

According to reports, the goal of this celebrity-fronted campaign (including Hollywood tastemakers such as Ke$ha, Colbie Caillat and Joanna Krupa) is to draw attention to the recent ruling with hopes that US marketers will get on board to end animal testing as well stateside.

“The Humane Society of the United States is proud to have such prestigious names lending their support to our Be Cruelty-Free campaign,” said Pascaline Clerc, senior director of animal research issues, in a statement to the media. “We hope their endorsement will influence the public to shop cruelty-free and increase support for ending the outdated and ineffective practice of cosmetic animal testing.”
