According to Dr. Ron Shelton, of The New York Aesthetics Consultants, LLP - Plastic, Laser & Dermasurgery, who invited press to experience a live demonstration of Pellevé, a non-invasive approach to smoother, more refreshed looking skin, the radiofrequency technology is painless and youth-enhancing. Pellevé is an FDA-cleared system for treating wrinkles without surgery, by utilizing radiofrequency technology to heat the deep layers of the skin without damaging the epidermis, or top layer of the skin, while offering a way to combat the signs of aging without needles, surgery or recovery time.

“Getting a lifting procedure is in high demand and utilizing radiofrequency technology to treat facial wrinkles is a growing phenomenon. One of the greatest advantages of the Pellevé approach is that there is no downtime and the system can be used for the entire face, including the eye area, to give brows a lifted look,” said Dr. Shelton. Explaining the methodology, he said, “Pellevé works by slowly heating the deep layers of the skin with a warming device powered by radiowave technology, which induces collagen stimulation, softens wrinkles, and plumps the skin. After treatment, the skin begins to produce new collagen. When the collagen contracts and tightens, there is a reduction of wrinkles, elastin becomes more unified, and the result is an improvement in skin quality and firmness.” The skin is said to take on a smoother, fuller look.
According to Dr. Shelton the collagen produced as a result of the Pellevé treatment is increasing in density and is not going away; however, more treatments are needed to keep women ahead of the aging curve.

The treatment, which is said to feel like a warm facial massage and is applied in 45-minute sessions, is designed to create firmer, tighter, and more refreshed looking skin. According to Dr. Shelton, along with Medical Aesthetician Gita Gabriel, who demonstrated the system, results after treatment continue to improve over the weeks following treatment, and can last up to six months. A minimum of three treatments, spaced one month apart, are recommended, noted Shelton; adding that treatments may be repeated in six months to a year, without a full cycle of three, and may also be used as booster treatments, to “provide overall facial rejuvenation.”
The ideal patient for the treatment is between 35 and 60 years of age, has moderate nasolabial folds, and perioral and periorbital wrinkles. Poor criteria for the treatment included patients with severely photodamaged skin, severe laxity or sagging, very deep wrinkles, as well as unrealistic expectations. Treatment areas on the face include sagging skin under the chin, wrinkles around the mouth, lines or folds between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, and excess skin on the upper eyelids. While possible side effects include mild swelling and erythema during or after the treatment, these are said to resolve within 2 to 24 hours after treatment.
