• Perfumania Holdings Inc.: appointed Donald J. Loftus as president of Parlux Ltd. and executive vice president of Perfumania Inc., effective immediately. Most recently, Loftus was the North American president and CEO of P&G Prestige, a position he held for more than 10 years. Prior to P&G Prestige, he held positions at Cosmopolitan Cosmetics, Escada Beauté, YSL Beauté and also served as divisional VP at May Department stores. Loftus is a former chairman of The Fragrance Foundation and the current chairman of Fashion Group International.
• Beiersdorf AG: reported that Peter Feld, responsible for the Europe/North America Region on Beiersdorf AG’s executive board since August 2010, will leave the company effective July 31, 2013, at his own request and on amicable terms. Until further notice, Stefan F. Heidenreich, CEO of Beiersdorf AG, will assume additional responsibility for Peter Feld’s Executive Board duties.
In Feld’s three years of office, his business achievements in the region for which he was responsible made a decisive contribution to the company’s progress, according to Beiersdorf.
• Nude Skincare: named Anastasia C. Ayala as chief executive officer. She replaces Anna Ghee who left the company, according to LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
Prior to this appointment, Ayala was president and chief executive officer of Pure Aesthetics — Pure Wellness, an integrative skin care, nutrition and wellness center she opened in Bel Air, CA, in 2006. She continues to own the business.
Ayala’s past roles have included serving as senior VP-global fragrances for Coty Beauty and senior vice president for Global Team Rimmel and Cutex Europe at Coty, based in London. She began her career as international marketing director of the Latin American and Caribbean divisions of Revlon.
• Drom Fragrances USA: welcomed Mark B. Murphy as a senior account manager. He joins Drom with experience from previous positions at IFF, Givaudan and Symrise. In his new role, Murphy strengthens Drom’s expanding personal care, hair care and home care segment by supporting and building existing business as well as by targeting new sales opportunities. He will work out of Drom’s Towaco, NJ location.
• Sephora Americas: promoted Julie Bornstein to chief marketing and digital officer. For the past five years, she served as senior vice president, Sephora Digital and a member of Sephora’s operating committee. During this time, she oversaw the doubling of the e-commerce business, launched Sephora into mobile as an early retail leader, undertook pioneering initiatives in social media, led the creation of unique and compelling digital in-store experiences, substantially grew Sephora’s loyalty program Beauty Insider, and successfully launched a world-class website, sephora.com.
In her new role, she will continue to lead these areas and assume responsibility for brand and store marketing, public relations and creative, formerly led by Sharon Rothstein. Bornstein will report to Alessandro Bogliolo, chief operating officer of Sephora Americas.
Prior to joining Sephora, Bornstein served as the general manager of Urban Outfitters Direct where she led the growth of the web and catalog division. Before Urban Outfitters, she served as vice president of ecommerce for Nordstrom from 2000-2005, joining as Nordstrom launched its first website to grow the business to over $350 million, and overseeing merchandising, marketing, creative and customer experience for the website and catalog.
• Intercoiffure America/Canada (ICA): named Sonya Dove as hair color council creative director. She will officially accept this three-year position at the Fall Atelier in 2013, following Gina Khan who served in the role for six years.
Dove and Christopher Dove are a duo known simply The Doves, who are widely recognized as the hair industry’s most sought-after stylists. Last year, The Doves received the Wella Ambassadors award.
• SeaCliff Beauty Packaging & Laboratories: welcomed John LaBonty as the new president of the company. Prior to joining SeaCliff Beauty, he was president of LaBonty Consulting Inc., specializing in building and expanding cosmetic brands globally. LaBonty has assisted numerous cosmetic brands competing in the mass and prestige categories and has successfully built brands in all global regions including Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe, Middle East and North America.
LaBonty has also worked as vice president/general manager for the international division of Smashbox Cosmetics. In addition, he brings mass market consumer brand experience from Procter & Gamble, as well as Tambrands, where he led multiple sales, marketing and general management organizations with both companies as president of Tambrands Canada.
• Steinberg & Associates, Inc.: named Michelle Desrosiers as a senior regulatory consultant. She graduated with a BS from Central Connecticut State University, with a concentration in Environmental Science and Public Relations. Upon graduation she joined IBM. In 2009, Desrosiers joined Autumn Harp, Inc., a turnkey cosmetic manufacturer in Vermont. For the past four years, Desrosiers worked to develop a rigorous regulatory review program. This guidance helps the company’s clients in FDA compliance and drug/OTC product registration, SPF New Rule adherence, Health Canada Regulations and EU Regulations. She also prepared the company for NSF/305 Standard certifications and audits, and reviewed USDA Organic and NPA certification compliance.
• Q Laboratories, Inc.: named Michelle Kelly as microbiology laboratory supervisor-pharma. She has been a member of the Q Laboratories’ staff since 2004, serving as microbiology lab supervisor for the past five-plus years. She will be responsible for all clients and samples for the pharmaceutical, dietary supplement, cosmetic and health and beauty care industries. She will oversee training of analysts in pharmaceutical related methods and manage day-to-day operations.
• Nucelis Corporation: named Dr. Sean P. O’Connor as president and CEO. In his new role, O’Connor will tap his significant experience in the specialty chemical industry and will also serve as a member of the board of directors.
O’Connor has served in a number of senior business management roles at Chemtura Corporation, most recently as president of Chemtura’s petroleum additives business unit. He previously managed Chemtura’s polymer additives portfolio. Prior to this, he worked in a number of different roles at British Petroleum in the UK.
O’Connor has a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Bristol.
• ZO Skin Health, Inc.: welcomed board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained cosmetic surgeon, Monika Kiripolsky, MD, FAAD, as the newest member of the ZO Skin Health faculty. She is also the newest associate to join Dr. Obagi at the Obagi Skin Health Institute in Beverly Hills, CA.
Kiripolsky brings a wide range of dermatologic specialties to the Obagi Skin Health Institute. She is an expert in treating stubborn skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, eczema, sun damage, hyperpigmentation and other chronic skin diseases.
• CPL Aromas: welcomed Begum Oner as business development manager responsible for the Turkish market based at offices in Istanbul.
This appointment is part of a wider strategy to develop the Turkish market for the company by adding local resource to serve customers more effectively.
Oner is recognized as an industry expert formerly of International Flavours & Fragrances (IFF), where she held the position of Sales Manager and was responsible for a number of major accounts.
• The Personal Care Products Council: hired Hayley McConnell as director, public affairs and communications. In this role, McConnell will expand the Council’s media outreach furthering the industry’s commitment to educate key stakeholders about important issues facing cosmetic and personal care products companies. McConnell previously worked at the National Grocers Association where she enhanced the organization’s social media presence and overall presence in Washington, DC. Prior to that, she worked for several high profile public affairs firms in Washington, DC representing a diverse client base,including Fortune 500 companies, associations and a number of political candidates.
