• Given the chemical industry’s increasing emphasis on safety, the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) ChemStewards Program hosted the National Chemical Safety Symposium, May 22 in Houston, TX, where national and local authorities discussed the latest trends and methodologies in process and occupational safety. ChemStewards—SOCMA’s environmental, health, safety and security program (EHS&S)—assists chemical companies in optimizing their performance and creating a safe and secure manufacturing environment.
“As I’ve visited facilities throughout the past year, I’ve found process and occupational safety are top priorities,” said Dr. J. Holland Jordan, managing director of ChemStewards. “The symposium is one way we can provide information and share best practices to assist these companies on the road to improving their EHS&S practices.”
Chemical Engineering Department Regents professor M. Sam Mannan, holder of the T. Michael O’Connor I Chair and director of the Mary K. O’Connor Process Safety Center at Texas A&M University, was the keynote speaker.
