Is it the laid-back style of young hipsters that have fueled the trend in beards—or is there another reason why young men are leaving the razor behind? According to data by Kantar Worldpanel, since 2005, 13% of men aged 18 to 24 have stopped shaving weekly and at the same time, full employment among men that age declined by 17%.
So, is it coincidence or correlation? Kantar Worldpanel suggests unemployment could be the reason for continuous declines in shaving.
“Employment, or the lack thereof, appears to be linked to shaving among 18-24 year old men. Since 2006, as unemployment grew, more than 1 million men 18-24 have stopped weekly shaving. This has serious implications on shaving manufacturers, who heavily target these young consumers,” noted Irene Jia, Kantar Worldpanel client executive.
