CND, a leader in professional nail, hand and foot beauty, has been awarded a total of six US patents for its CND Shellac system, three years after the launch of the long-wear technology.
In May 2010, after nearly five years of development, the nail lacquer firm rolled out the three-part Shellac system, which consists of the CND Shellac Base Coat, Color Coat and Top Coat, each cured in the CND UV lamp for zero dry time. The base coat, color coat, top coat and UV lamp each hold at least one patent of its own.
“These patents for CND Shellac are a validation of our innovation,” said Dr. Dave Valia, vice president of research and development for CND. “They solidify our technical leadership and protect our investment in creating a new category in nail coatings performance and care.”
Since the company’s inception in 1979, CND has remained consistently science-based, maintaining chemistry as a core competency. According to CND, when other companies began outsourcing their research capabilities, CND invested in a multi-million-dollar on-site R&D facility, which has allowed it to deliver “groundbreaking” brands such as Retention+ Liquid & Powder, Brisa Gel, SolarOil and Vinylux.
