The Best and the Busts In Cleaning Products

February 7, 2014

Consumer Reports’ recommendations are valued by shoppers, and the consumer advocate publication recently revealed what cleaning products it finds are worth the money and which are  “a waste of elbow grease.”

For instance, when it comes to auto dish detergent, CR was disappointed by BabyGanics Dish Dazzler, suggesting users looking for green products opt for Seventh Generation’s powder instead.  Among the products it cited as solid purchases were Cascade Complete ActionPacs, which it called “excellent at resisting mineral buildup and water spots while getting pots clean” and Finish Powerball Tabs, which it named a “best buy.”

In the laundry category, Consumer Reports was smitten with Tide Ultra plus Bleach Vivid White + Bright HE, Tide Ultra HE powder Wisk Deep Clean liquid and Kirkland Signature Ultra Clean Pacs (from Costco).

Another favorite product: Pine-Sol Original all-purpose cleaner.

In fact, it was the only brand recommended by Consumer Reports in its most recent tests of all-purpose cleaners. This venerable cleaner beat two other liquids and 16 sprays, according to CR. At only nine cents per ounce, it was one of the least expensive cleaners too, earning it “best buy” status.
