BioScreen Testing Services, Inc. has added a “state of the art” Total Organic Carbon instrumentation with the purchase of a Shimadzu TOC-Vwp Total Organic Carbon Instrument, according to the company. The new 21 CFR part 11 compliant state-of-the-art instrument detects TOC using a Non Purgeable Organic Carbon (NPOC) technique where inorganic carbon is purged from purified water samples before oxidation and detection and is accurate in the 10-500 ppb range.
This system uses a high-sensitivity NDIR (nondispersive infrared) detector, which achieves ultrahigh sensitivity measurements, by using powerful sample oxidation through a combination of persulfate, phosphoric acid, UV illumination and heating. Sensitivity and accuracy are also enhanced by minimizing the reagent blanks that may hinder accurate analysis.
The purchase of Shimadzu TOC-Vwp Total Organic Carbon Analyzer increases BioScreen’s Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analytical testing capabilities by now offering both techniques described within USP Total Organic Carbon monograph. TOC can now be analyzed by calculating the inorganic carbon in solution and subtracting it from the total carbon, or by purging the inorganic carbon from the sample before oxidation and analysis. Both methods are considered equivalent by USP.
The New Shimadzu TOC-Vwp in addition to the Sievers Model 900 has enhanced Bioscreen’s TOC testing services. Samples will be tested with the first available instrument to offer the best turn around time possible, said the company.
