Paula Dorf Files Lawsuit

April 1, 2014

Paula Dorf-Dekovnick has filed a lawsuit in a New York City federal court against Paula Dorf Cosmetics, LLC, alleging that the company has overstepped use of her name and associated trademarks.

Having filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and within a restructuring, Paula Dorf Cosmetics was renamed Paula Dorf Cosmetics LLC in 2010 after Global Beauty Group took a majority stake in the firm. Dorf held onto a 49% share.

The lawsuit alleges that the company “unilaterally usurped rights, such as the right to use Paula Dorf’s life story, persona and image.”

Dorf, who worked for the firm until April 2012, said that while she was employed there she was able to control the quality and messages bearing her name. However, the company is now producing products at a lower quality standard.
