Sun care maker Sun Bum has created “One Night Stand,” which it is calling a “smart and sexy ” PSA.
“For the most part, scare tactics don’t really work on us,” said Tom Rinks, president and co-founder of Sun Bum. “Not for smoking, religion, or even sunscreen. You’ve just gotta show a way of living that is actually more appealing than the alternative, and hope people choose it. At Sun Bum, we try not to take ourselves too seriously, but we wanted to get the message out there for summer and this seemed like a fun, non-threatening way to do it.”
The 30-second spot features a surfer wearing a cheap sun costume, coming out of a motel room with a sexy blonde girl, wearing just a t-shirt and a smile. After some groping and a goodbye kiss, the dude in the sun suit leaves and the girl goes back in the room. The implication is that they have spent the night together after a chance meeting. The tag line then fades up and reads “It’s okay to love the sun, just be sure to use protection.”
