- Sun Protection & Beyond— Submissions may focus on increasing the understanding of the impact of solar exposure on skin health, biology, aging and beauty, as well as breakthrough strategies for enhanced sun protection, new photostabilization strategies, novel measurement techniques and fundamental studies on sunscreen film structure as it relates to protection. Topics can also cover the psychology of beauty as it relates to encouraging sunscreen usage and bringing sun protection to under-protected populations, impacts of sun exposure on psychology and current developments in photostability and high SPF/nonwhitening.
- Creating Loyal Scents—The Science of Fragrances. Submissions should focus on topics inclusive of aromatherapy, olfaction, synthetic vs. natural, sensory, biology and aesthetics. Additional areas can include formulation challenges, stability and innovative packaging concepts.
- Inspired by Nature—Biomimicry. Submissions for this category should showcase nature-inspired technological solutions to cosmetic problems.
- Emerging Market Trends and Insights. Submissions should highlight the latest technologies, from either a specialty ingredient or finished formulation perspective, and also examine new applications and untapped markets. This category can also include market analysis and emerging trends among Millennials and untapped markets.
- Beauty with the Magic of Colors. Submissions may focus on color cosmetics, nail, lip and eye color, tattoos, etc. Additional areas of interest include how to achieve full coverage and still maintain natural look, novel pigments with surface treatments or with skin refractive index matching, color fidelity and shade forgiveness technology.
- Marketing to the Senses—Product Creation Based on Sensory Appeal. Submissions should highlight product innovation with specific sensorial properties, as well as aspects of sensorial measurement, including panel testing as well as instrumental analyses that can be correlated with sensorial appeal. Contributions on the rheological profile of novel materials and formulations will be most welcome.
- Breakthrough Concepts in Skin Biology and Microbiome. Submissions should focus on basic research in skin microbiology, the application of microbiology data in product development, or translational research that correlates microbiome data to skin pathology.
- The Balancing Act—Regulatory Compliance vs. Innovation. Submissions can include practical suggestions as to how to stay globally current in this ever-changing area, ways to balance both innovation and compliance, and comparisons/contrasts of acceptable label claims or regulations in different areas of the world.
- Sustainability—Cosmetics for a Greener Future. In addition to sustainable formulation, submissions can cover sustainable manufacturing, packaging, global regulatory guidelines, challenges in the certification process, analytical measurement of natural ingredients and guidelines on how to evaluate natural products.
- Hair Care Technology. Submissions may focus on increasing our understanding of the hair structure from a biophysical and biological standpoint. Additional areas of interest include development of new technologies to prevent hair damage from chemical treatments, prevention of hair color loss, hair thermal styling and novel techniques and molecules for use in hair styling.
- Delivery Systems and Cosmetic Vehicles. Topics can cover advances in skin delivery systems, colloidal science, nano-technology, novel product forms, devices that aid delivery and vitro and/or in vivo methods and models for evaluating delivery.
- Beauty has no Borders. Submissions can address ethnicity and cosmetics ranging from advances in understanding about the similarities and differences to product innovation for a diverse world.
