The Society of Cosmetic Chemists has planned two CEP courses for September—single-day classes on cosmetic raw materials, and color and makeup for Sept. 14 and Sept. 19, respectively, at its national office in New York City.
The cosmetic raw materials class (Sept. 14) will be led by Mark Chandler. This course will be very useful to individuals new to the industry, whether they are involved in formulation, quality control, technical service, sales, or marketing, according to the SCC. It will also provide a great review and update to those with some experience in the field, or who are looking to transition from one discipline to another. The course, led by the always-entertaining Chandler, promises to be highly interactive, informative, and engaging, will cover the cosmetic raw material market; offer an introduction to basic cosmetic chemistry and touch on ingredients from emollients and emulsifiers to pigments, preservatives, surfactants and actives.
The color and makeup course (Sept. 19) will provide an overview of the ingredients and formulating principles used in the development of the various types of color cosmetics. It will also provide the basics of how to select color additives for use in decorative cosmetics from the perspectives of regulations, stability and color type as well as how to process color for optimum performance. The class is suited for those involved with the formulation, development and manufacture of color cosmetics, including formulation chemists, process development engineers, quality control personnel, and manufacturing operators. The instructor is Jane Hollenberg.
