This pure molecule, obtained from Terminalia sericea (African Silver tree) is traditionally used in Africa and Asia topically on the skin. The material's name reveals its secret: the adjective sericea means “silky, smooth as silk” in ancient Latin. Sericoside has a triterpenic structure which is quite similar to the most known Centella asiatica terpenoids, and was found effective to ameliorate skin conditions, counteracting skin sagging and wrinkles, to improve radiance and to reduce eye bags and dark circles.
