BASF To Slash 500 Jobs at Engelhard
2006-11-03 | 12:40
Five months after acquiring Engelhard, BASF announced it will cut 800 jobs at its new subsidiary, including 500 in the U.S. It's all part of BASF's plan to eliminate 2,000 jobs worldwide.
BASF said the cuts were part of an effort to improve efficiency by eliminating overlapping functions and processes, especially in administration, marketing and sales, and logistics.
"Any job loss is difficult," said Klaus Peter Lobbe, a member of the BASF board responsible for North America. "But our principal objective is to ensure the sustained success of BASF."
According to a BASF spokesperson, 200 to 250 of the 500 positions in at the Iselin, NJ headquarters will move either to the BASF headquarters in Florham Park or to another company facility in Rockaway, NJ.
