NaturalNano, Inc., a materials science company, announced that Nobel Laureate and famed nanotech pioneer, Sir Harold W. Kroto, Ph.D., has joined its Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Kroto received the 1996 Nobel Prize for Chemistry, along with colleagues Richard Smalley and Robert Curl, Jr., for the discovery of a new form of carbon, C60, considered one of the most important cornerstones in the development of Nanoscience. Much of today's Nanotechnology research and commercialization focuses on the tubes and wires derived from these spherical carbon molecules, named "buckyballs" after architect Buckminster Fuller whose geodesic domes they mimic. "To make this promise a reality will require a spirit of innovation and pragmatic approach implicit in the strategy that NaturalNano is pioneering in its development of naturally occurring materials,” said Dr. Kroto. “Nanoscience and Nanotechnology represent a tremendous opportunity for advancement and NaturalNano is not only developing products that can be put into use now but also exploring future novel and exciting innovations."
