Nestle To Appoint New CEO Thursday

2007-09-17 | 02:27

Paul Polman will get the job according to rumor mill.

Nestle SA, the world's biggest food and drinks company, will name its new chief executive Thursday, a company official said.

No one has yet been named to succeed Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, Nestle spokesman Francois-Xavier Perroud said Monday. The statement followed reports in the Swiss weekly SonntagsZeitung and The Wall Street Journal that Paul Polman, the current chief financial officer, would get the job.

Both papers cited anonymous people as the basis for their reports.

"The board is making a decision on Thursday morning," Perroud said.

Brabeck steps down in April after 10 years at the helm of Nestle, maker of Nescafe coffee and Poland Spring water. The Austrian will remain as chairman of the board.

Dutch-born Polman, 51, joined Nestle in 2005 from Procter & Gamble Co. Media reports said Polman's main rival is Paul Bulcke, who runs Nestle's business in North and South America.
