Olay Skin Tone Analysis System Arrives in Boots

2007-11-08 | 12:49

Skin Care That Redefines Skin Aging

Olay is offering women across the UK free access to its expert skincare analysis and knowledge Nov. 12. Trained Olay beauty consultants equipped with the revolutionary Skin Tone Analysis System (STAS) will now be on hand at selected Boots stores nationwide for skin consultations and advice to help fight what ages skin the most.

The STAS, developed by Procter & Gamble and Astron Clinica, is a hand-held imaging device which is placed in contact with the skin's surface and attached to a computer. This non-invasive technique works by shining visible and infrared light on to the skin, and then mathematically interpreting the reflected pattern to create your individual skin tone map. The map highlights the distribution of the three light-absorbing molecules known as chromophores: melanin, haemoglobin and collagen, which affects how light is reflected by the skin. Over time, everyday damage to the skin diminishes the ability of light from entering and reflecting, resulting in dull skin.
