French fashion, beauty legend passes at 71

Yves Saint Laurent died on June 1 from brain cancer at the age of 71. His mother and two sisters survive him. The funeral will take place on June 5 in Paris, according to media reports.

Yves Saint Laurent was born Aug. 1, 1936, in Oran, Algeria. His first big break in fashion came in 1955, when he was introduced to French designer Christian Dior in Paris.

After becoming known as one of the top names in the fashion industry, the designer expanded his business with perfume licenses, including Opium and Champagne, and later on built the line YSL Beauty, which now includes makeup, skin care and both men’s and women’s fragrances.
