Cosmetics Have Benefits for Older Women

2009-04-07 | 08:33

Regular users of lipstick have better posture.

Using makeup, especially lipstick, makes a woman look good and feel better about herself and even improves her health as well, according to results of a new study by L'Oréal. In a presentation at theWorld Congress of Gerontology in Paris, researchers said the effect was noticed after they studied 100 women aged 65 to 85.

Older women who wore makeup had better posture than non-lipstick wearing seniors. Even the balance of those women who wore makeup was better. This resulted in the lipstick/makeup wearing women having fewer falls than those who did not wear makeup.

Study leader, Dr. Patricia Pineau, who is also research director at L’Oreal noted that older women who wore makeup, “…stood up straight…held themselves differently to those who did not wear makeup.” In short, it would seem that the application of makeup worked as a means of stretching which is important for balance.
