Lancôme Bets on Stem Cells

2009-06-28 | 04:50

Controversial ingredient added to Absolue

Stem cells. They're controversial, high tech and now you can find them in Lancôme's new Absolue Precious Cells, a skin care formula aimed at women in their 50s.

The stem cells are combined with L'Oréal's patented anti-aging molecule Proxylane to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles by up to 30%.

But while more companies are jumping on the stem cell bandwagon, many dermatologists and industry observers remain unconvinced about the efficiacy of the material. In fact, some companies, such as Estée Lauder, insist they will not formulate with the ingredient.

The battle over stem cells may be raging, but that isn't stopping Lancôme from commanding a high price for Absolue Precious Cells. A 50ml day or night cream will retail for $145. The 15ml eye cream is $95.
